A message from the Team Captain:
Welcome to the SCHMOOPALICIOUS! team's page.
Struggling with mental health should not be a shameful experience. Mental illness is a biologically based brain disorder that affects 1 in 5 families in America. With proper treatment recovery is possible.
Funds raised through the NAMIWALKS program will be used to help raise awareness about mental illness through the many programs such as "In Our Own Voice". IOOV is a brilliant and touching presentation given by courageous people willing to share their own experiences in order to spread the word, banish stigma and help others find their path to recovery. To read more about NAMI and what we do, please go to the home page at www.NAMI.org, or my own affiliate which is www.namicapeann.org.
I also want to add that while fundraising is important, the number of people who actually walk is equally, if not more important. WE MUST BE COUNTED in order to raise awareness!
By joining a walk team or creating your own, you are stomping out the stigma that keeps so many people in the dark about recovery. So please, even if you cannot donate, consider joining me at Artesani Park, Brighton (Boston)on Walk Day May 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. for a 3 mile walk or to just hang out in the park. Your presence will be both appreciated and counted! Whadda ya waitin fer? Schmoop to it!
*Please note that even though this is a WALK, that we understand there will be folks that are not able to actually do the walk itself. Just by joining my team (or the team of your choice) you will be helping us to stand up and be counted! Thank You! --Schmoopie
