A message from the Team Captain:
Welcome to the team page for The Bipolar Express! On April 19, 2008, we will be participating in San Diego's NAMI Walk.
UPDATE AS OF APRIL 17: Goooo, BPXT!!! We've raised over $3800 and are close to our $5000 goal... now we're on the home stretch! WE GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR DONATIONS AND SUPPORT!!!
And we reached my goal of 20 walkers! I am so thrilled by this and will be sending all of you an email this evening with more details. Please continue to inform your family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, clients, and anyone else in your sphere of influence about this AWESOME event.
For those of you already walking with us, THANK YOU! You will soon be the proud wearer of a stylish Bipolar Express team bracelet, courtesy of Dave T.
This site exists to provide you with up-to-date information about the walk, our participants, and our fundraising efforts.
For those of you who either don't know me personally, (or live in a cave!) I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder several years ago and am now under the care of a couple of awesome mental health professionals who I credit with keeping me moderately sane (notwithstanding, of course, my own diligent efforts).
So... who are you walking for? You're walking for me, for other members of my family, for anyone you know who lives with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, OCD, or other mental health issues, and for a whole bunch of nameless nuts (sarcasm, people!) who receive assistance and support from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Launched in 2003 in response to requests from NAMI's state and local affiliates for a high visibility, nation-wide event that would move serious mental illness into the forefront of America's consciousness, NAMIWALKS came of age in 2007.
Holding walks in 69 cities across America, NAMIWALKS attracted more than 70,000 individual walkers/supporters, securing over 1,000 corporate and business sponsors and raised over $6,500,000 last year.
Combining the results of 2007 with those of the previous four years, NAMIWALKS has held over 200 WALKS, engaged over 150,000 walkers/supporters, and raised over $20 million dollars to help improve the lives of persons affected by a serious mental illness.
Questions? E-mail me at amandaflourie@gmail.com, or give me a call at 619.646.3761.
All sarcasm aside, I would really appreciate your participation and/or donations. Five kilometers isn't exactly a super-strenuous affair... c'mon, c'mon, join me!
Much love,
Amanda
