Dear friends & family,
On Sept. 13th we're walking to spread the word: PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESSES CAN GET BETTER! NAMI has helped so many families on the road to recovery through education and support groups. I know it has helped mine. Just click on the links to the NAMI website, and you'll see all the mental health information available.
I've just received a 3 day training class to teach other families better understanding,communication and coping skills when dealing with ill loved ones. Knowledge empowers. Statistics show when families have improved education and knowledge about mental illness, the chances for their loved one to maintain recovery and improvement and become productive members of society are greatly increased. The class provided by NAMI cost approx. $250 for food, lodging, books,materials, etc., but it was free to me. I was one of 30 volunteers in my class. There were two other classes about the same size. One was teaching peers how to help other peers. You do the math; that's a lot of money! It's also a lot of people from all over Georgia feeling more confident about helping others across our state. These classes are taking place all over the US.
