Adrienne Kennedy, M.A.

West Lake Hills, TX

Adrienne Kennedy is a member on the NAMI Board of Directors. Prior to devoting herself as an active volunteer with NAMI Austin, Adrienne was a research associate and doctoral candidate at The University of Texas at Austin, College of Education.

Adrienne found NAMI through NAMI Family-to-Family which provided education, insight, healing, and resilience. She is currently a state-level trainer in three programs (Family-to-Family, Family Support Group, and Parents and Teachers as Allies). She is a teacher for NAMI Basics and Provider Education, Education Chair of NAMI Austin, and Advisor to NAMI Texas. Active in advocacy, community outreach and signature programs, Adrienne was the president of NAMI Austin, when it was awarded the 2013 Affiliate of the Year.

Adrienne hopes to continue NAMI’s growth in national visibility and leadership recognition; to increase donor development and private philanthropy; to advocate for 1) widespread education regarding early onset, along with early identification and intervention; 2) information campaigns addressing young adults; 3) increased NAMI leadership at all levels of criminal justice system; 4) parity in education, employment and housing equal to that of other medical disabilities; 5) education, support and advocacy for veterans and their families.

Adrienne is a member of NAMI’s Family Support Group Advisory; NAMI’s Child and Youth Advisory; and Austin/Travis County Behavioral Health Advisory. She is a recipient of NAMI’s 2013 Education Leadership Award for Parents and Teachers As Allies.

Adrienne earned her B.A. (Journalism and Social Sciences) at San Jose State College and M.A. (Education Administration and Supervision) at San Jose State University.

She is a member of NAMI Austin in Austin, Texas.

During the 2018-2019 Board term, Adrienne will serve as chair of the Executive Committee and as an ex officio (non-voting) member of all other standing committees.
