During Susan Gaffney's 20+ years as a nonprofit leader, she has focused her efforts on people who are too often disenfranchised—those living in poverty, recent immigrants, youth, the elderly and individuals affected by mental illness. Susan has worked in all areas of nonprofits, including direct service, research, fundraising, communications, technical assistance, program development and project management.

She is certified by Prosci as a Change Practitioner and by the Institute for Cultural Affairs in Group Facilitation. Susan holds a master’s in nonprofit management and urban policy from the New School for Public Engagement.

What piece of your work at NAMI are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my work on the Standards of Excellence. Ensuring that all parts of the Alliance are set up to meet the needs of their communities is incredibly worthwhile and rewarding.

Who inspires you?

I have always been inspired by my grandmother who was an accomplished professional and a well-loved mother, partner and friend.
