Anita Herron found NAMI through NAMI Basics while dealing with her son’s mental illness diagnoses and trying to navigate the medical, psychiatric and education systems. She has been passionate about NAMI ever since, as she has seen firsthand the positive impact they can have on families.
In addition to her current role, Anita has also served NAMI as a young families’ program advocate for NAMI North Carolina, an affiliate president, a NAMI Support Group Facilitator, a NAMI Parents and Teachers as Allies presenter and a NAMI Basics teacher and state trainer. She is a graduate of Central Texas College and Troy University.
What do you wish more people knew about NAMI?
Through their support and educations programs, NAMI is dedicated to educating families, friends and people affected by mental health conditions.
What’s something about you that would surprise others?
My daughter’s birth was filmed and broadcasted on the Discovery Health Channel. I cherish this show as it features my entire family during a beautiful time.
