Texans Speak Out on Mental Health Budget Crisis

April 24, 2003 -- Nationally, as state budgets continue to cut back mental health services, a crisis is developing. Channel 8 News in Austin takes an in-depth look at the cost of such neglect and privation of treatment in Texas.

Excerpt: "The State of Texas ranks 47th in the nation when it comes to the amount of money per capita spent treating people with mental illness. Many call that a mental health care crisis that's likely to get worse after this legislative session. Worse not just for the mentally ill but for taxpayers, too."
