James is the Chief International Correspondent for ABC News. Based in London, he travels around the world on breaking news assignments and on longer-form features, reporting for Good Morning America, World News Tonight, and Nightline, as well as the network’s latest streaming services. It’s a varied brief, which has taken him to more than 60 countries: the war in Gaza, the Ukrainian frontline, anti-war protests in Moscow, the fight against ISIS in Syria; confronting Chechen authorities about abuses against LBGT people; terror attacks across Europe and further afield; and tagging humpback whales in the Antarctic.
James is an integral part of ABC’s royal coverage, leading on the death and funeral of Queen Elizabeth, and the coronation of King Charles. He’s covered the Olympic Games in both Tokyo and Paris, the fire and subsequent restoration of Notre Dame, earthquakes in Indonesia and Turkey, and volcanoes in Iceland and Spain.
He was the first U.S. network reporter at the Thai cave where the soccer team went missing and was the first to interview them after their rescue. In Syria, he was the first to gain a television interview with American ISIS bride Huda Mothana and during the Coronavirus crisis, travelled to more than 15 countries to document the unfolding pandemic while millions were on lockdown. James also fronted the National Geographic special Virus Hunters, in which he travelled around the world to meet frontline researchers working to stop the next pandemic. An adventure that took him from bat caves in Liberia to the pig farms of the American Midwest, Virus Hunters aired in 173 countries in over 40 languages.
James co-anchored ABC News Live’s coverage of the October 7 Hamas attack, for which he won a News Emmy. His coverage of the war in Ukraine and the climate crisis in India have also been recognized with Emmys, and he won the David Bloom award and a Deadline Club award from the Society of Professional Journalists for his work in Chechnya.
Before joining ABC News, he was at the BBC, where he spent time as the corporation’s Beirut correspondent. A fluent Arabic and French speaker, he started his career in Syria, where at 24 he reported for British newspapers on the protests that started the civil war.
Dr. Don Mordecai is the national leader for mental health and wellness at Kaiser Permanente, and director of mental health and chemical dependency services for the Permanente Medical Group in Northern California. He is also an adjunct clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Stanford University Medical School.
Dr. Mordecai holds a doctoral degree from Stanford University School of Medicine and is board certified in psychiatry with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dan Gillison brings expertise in non-profit leadership and a passion for advocating for people with mental illness to NAMI. Before coming to NAMI, Dan led the American Psychiatric Association Foundation (APAF), where he was responsible for strategic planning, personnel management, board communications, oversight of APAF’s public education programs and outreach, and formulating strategic alliances and partnerships to further APAF’s mission. Prior to APAF, Gillison led County Solutions and Innovation for the National Association of Counties, where he was instrumental in repositioning the organization’s programs to provide expertise in health and human services, justice, and public safety.
Dan has more than 30 years of experience and has previously held leadership positions at Xerox, Nextel, and Sprint. Dan holds a B.A. from Southern University and A&M College. Dan spearheaded the creation of the CEO Alliance for Mental Health in 2020, which represents some of the most vulnerable and diverse populations affected by disparities in the mental health care system. The leadership collective has collaborated to identify and amplify their priorities for creating a future of quality mental health care for all who need it. Dan serves on lululemon’s Mental Wellbeing Global Advisory Board.
Raymond Braun, a Calm contributor, LGBTQ advocate, and marketing executive, launched YouTube’s first LGBTQ+ marketing initiative at Google. He’s a leading voice for LGBTQ+ issues, serving as a contributing editor for Seventeen magazine, and recognized on Forbes’ 30 under 30 list. In 2023, he set two World Records by completing 7 Olympic Distance triathlons on 7 continents in 7 days, marking his recovery journey from OCD. Collaborating with institutions like the White House Summit and Stanford University, he advocates for social impact, promoting diversity, and raising mental health awareness.
