NAMI Receives Fourth Consecutive Four–Star Rating from Charity Navigator

Dec 7, 2020

For the last four years NAMI has proudly received the highest rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator. This four-star rating shows that NAMI exceeds industry standards, adheres to best practices and fulfills our mission in a financially responsible and efficient way. NAMI has also earned GuideStar's Platinum Seal of Transparency by voluntarily sharing the measures of progress and results we use to pursue our mission and received a perfect score of 100 for our accountability and transparency.

The COVID-19 pandemic is having a profoundly negative impact on the mental health of our communities and is expected to worsen over time. Since March, the NAMI HelpLine has seen a 65% increase in the number of people reaching out for information and support around mental health concerns. The continued generosity of individual donors provides NAMI with the resources to continue and expand needed programs as increasing rates of anxiety and depression will lead to more people in need of support, reassurance and encouragement.

“NAMI is proud to receive an exceptional four-star rating from Charity Navigator for the fourth year in a row, setting us apart and demonstrating our trustworthiness to the public,” said Daniel H. Gillison, Jr. CEO of NAMI. “As a grassroots organization, we’re grateful to receive 70% of our funding from individual donors, which reflects our values and goals as an organization. We appreciate the public’s continued generosity, especially during this unprecedented crisis, when the need for mental health resources is greater than ever and NAMI is striving to provide the needed support so no one feels alone in their struggle.”

It’s important to NAMI that our supporters trust that we’re using their donations in a fiscally responsible way to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. Our ability to maintain this rating illustrates our commitment to good governance as well as financial accountability and transparency.
