Senator John Cornyn (R. Texas) has introducedThe Mental Health and Safe Communities Act(S. 2002). This bill would do 3 things for people with mental illness in the criminal justice system:
- It would help prevent unnecessary incarceration.
- It would help provide better treatment and services for individuals while incarcerated.
- It would help connect people with treatment and services following release from jail or prison.
