The Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act of 2017 calls for the COPS Office to publish case studies of programs designed primarily to address officer psychological health and well-being. There is both anecdotal and research evidence that the number of people with mental illnesses being contacted by law enforcement and subsequently becoming involved in the criminal justice system is growing (Fellner 2014; James and Glaze 2006; Reuland and Margolis 2003).
