NAMI Alliance Day 2022


NAMI Alliance Day, formally Field Leadership Day, is designed specifically for NAMI State Organizations and NAMI Affiliates. Presented and developed by NAMI National’s Alliance Relations, Development and Field Governance Department, this day is dedicated to supporting the great work taking place within the Alliance! In 2022, NAMI Alliance Day was held on Tuesday, June 14th, and preceded the NAMI Convention (June 15th & 16th). 

NAMI Alliance day is for staff, Executive Directors, Board Members and volunteers of all NAMI State Organizations and NAMI Affiliates. 
 
Presentations were delivered by several NAMI National Staff and the various team members in the Alliance Relations, Development and Field Governance department: Field Capacity Building, Field Resource Development (NAMI Walks), Field Governance and Membership, and Knowledge and Learning. 
 
Information and resources to support the Alliance that were exchanged included: 

  • How data from key NAMI assessments will be used to build capacity and respond to the organizational needs of NSOs and NAs; 

  • An introduction to NAMI for new leaders course;  

  • Information on the governance of using NAMI logos; 

  • A new fundraising strategy; 

  • NAMI HelpLine tools and resources; and 

  • Information about the regional model and its benefits.

Welcome & Introductions

It’s an exciting time for NAMI National and the Alliance Relations, Development & Field Governance (ARDFG) department as we continue to grow, adapt and remain motivated and responsive to the needs of our field. NAMI Alliance Day provided attendees with a few jammed-packed hours of knowledge, learning, and practical tools and resources that can be used to increase the capacity of NAMI State Organizations and NAMI Affiliates, no matter if you are a volunteer, executive director, board member, or other staff member.

Alliance Relations, Development and Field Governance (ARDFG) Virtual Town Hall (Live Session)

ARDFG is made up of four distinct teams – Field Governance and Membership (FG&M), Field Resource Development (FRD), Field Capacity Building (FCB), and Knowledge and Learning (K&L). During this session, attendees learned more about what the ARDFG department does, and got answers to their questions submitted in advance.

It’s All in the Data!

This session explored how the data collected from the Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services survey and Organizational Health Assessment Survey (OHAS) taken by NAMI State Organizations will be used to build capacity and respond to the needs of the field. Bridgespan provided an update on their assessment of the current state of NAMI National’s operating model and preliminary recommendations of a future state.

This session recognized and celebrated the award recipients of the Outstanding NAMI State and NAMI Affiliate organizations who demonstrated exceptional leadership, strong community presence, outreach to diverse communities, exemplary stewardship and application of the Standards of Excellence.

EXPRESS TALKS consisted of two talks, one after the other, followed by a 10-minute combined live Q&A.

Topic: Emblematic Gestures: NAMI Logo Usage as Defined in the Governing Documents

FG&M discussed the required elements for authorized usage of the NAMI logo and the critical importance that NAMI State and NAMI Affiliate marketing materials are aligned in order to maintain, promote, and protect the NAMI brand.

Topic: Collaborative Strategy for Field Fundraising

The Field Resource Development (FRD) team discussed strategies for collaborating with neighboring NSONAs to strengthen their fundraising potential. Attendees learned how the FRD team has been facilitating collaborations among NAMIWalks events through their multi-event sponsorship and national team programs. Attendees were able to implement these strategies for local fundraising events and initiatives.

Topic: An Introduction to NAMI for New Leaders

This session introduced a new resource designed for field leaders of all types, whether volunteer, staff, or Executive Director at an affiliate or state organization. The short, basic orientation provides a foundation of information on the NAMI Alliance’s structure and how NAMI works with the field. Attendees learned how the new NAMI leader orientation will be rolled out and where it fits within a larger focus on supporting field leaders.

Topic: Moving (Back) to a Regional Model to Support the NAMI Alliance

The Field Capacity Building team has moved back to a Regional Model in an effort to support the NAMI Alliance more effectively, efficiently, and strategically through technical assistance, training, and tools. Attendees learned more about the model, how the team supports the Alliance through this model, and the myriad benefits the model can offer in how we help the Alliance build and strengthen its organizational capacity.
