Today the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) announced it will be a part of MTV Entertainment Group’s and the Biden-Harris Administration’s Mental Health Youth Action Forum. MTV Entertainment Group is working to engage young people from across the U.S. to employ their creative expertise and direct knowledge of their peers to help drive their communities to take mental health actions.

NAMI is pleased to announce the launch of the first phase of the updated NAMI Hearts+Minds, a program that educates and empowers individuals to better manage their health, mentally and physically.

The survey sought to better understand the impact of mood disorders, which include common mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder and other kinds of depression. Our survey found that Hispanic and Asian American individuals are facing more significant struggles, including a lack of cultural competency among health care professionals.

This MIAW, NAMI is highlighting our “Together for Mental Health” campaign, which focuses on the importance of improving the mental health care system. Each day throughout the week (Oct. 3 – 9), we will spread awareness about some of the most common barriers to mental health care people with mental illness face.

On Oct. 1, 2021, NAMI National filed a federal trademark infringement lawsuit against Mindspring Mental Health Alliance Inc.

NAMI will celebrate researchers advancing treatment for mental illness at the Inspiring Hope Through Research virtual event on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, at 4:30 p.m. ET. The 2021 NAMI Scientific Award recipients are Dr. Gail Daumit, MHS, FACP, and Dr. A. Eden Evins, MPH, who will present their findings during the event, which is free and open to the public.

Our panel of experts and advocates will share insights on mental health and mental illnesses in communities of color in the context of structural inequities, the pandemic and the economic crisis.

NAMI recently released a report to help individuals and families navigate health insurance after a suicide attempt. Deciphering health insurance bills can make this time even more difficult, but there are federal protections in place to ensure that most health insurance plans will pay for medical care resulting from a suicide attempt.
